USU Football Adds Shoulder Pads To Monday Practice; Derek Wright Excels

LOGAN, Utah-Monday, Utah State football added pads to practice for the first time during fall camp.

The Aggies primarily focused on skill development, fundamentals and special teams.

The team concluded practice with 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills, followed by a lengthy 11-on-11 session.

As with all practice sessions with the exception of two (scrimmages on August 14 and 21 at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium), Monday’s practice was closed to fans.

Among the Aggies’ standouts at Monday practice were junior signal-callers Andrew Peasley and Logan Bonner. These passers, who are vying for the starting position (Bonner is listed as the starter on the depth chart), completed 31-41 (75.6 completion percentage) passes during the numerous drills.

Senior receiver Deven Thompkins hauled in eight receptions Monday.

Senior receiver Derek Wright (a native of Sterling, Utah and a former Manti High School and Snow College star) hauled in a pair of scoring passes, one from Peasley and Bonner each.

The Aggies’ season commences September 4 at Washington State.
