Wyatt says the school has seen 1.45 million dollars in donations in the last twelve months. That is the most ever donated in a one year period. Wyatt commented that it’s the alumni that are giving back to the school. Wyatt also commented that the budget cuts will not affect the schools scholarship fund.
Richfield City discusses projects

(RICHFIELD) – The Richfield City Council met in session Tuesday night to consider adopting an ordinance to annex property that has been battled over for the past year. The property the city wants to annex is located in an area northeast of the city and the battle has been over space, water and animal rights. Some property owners want to maintain their water and animal rights but most of the owners want the city to annex their property. City leaders and a subdivision developer were finally able to work with the property owners to zone the annexed area for a single-family and rural dwelling district. The council adopted the ordinance in Tuesday’s meeting. The council also heard comments from Business Administrator, Woody Farnsworth and Finance Director, Mike Langston, concerning city projects to be presented to the Community Impact Board for future funding. They also discussed striping and signage at the Rotary Park project which is nearing completion and the next phase of the $134,000 bike/walking path on College Avenue.
Condemned land may go to court

(RICHFIELD) – Richfield City is considering condemnation proceedings on a portion of land owned by Boyter Welding company that intersects an area for road expansion on 800 South. Harold Boyter and his son, Chris, spoke before the city council in Tuesday night’s meeting, saying that three families make their livelihood off the property up for condemnation but Business Administrator, Woody Farnsworth said the land has been in the Master Transportation Plan since the 1990’s. The City wants to expand the road at 800 South to Main Street so that traffic has a connector route east and west to College Avenue and the council has made an offer to purchase a half acre piece of land owned by Boyter’s for $45,000. Boyter’s say they can get quadruple the price for their property that a developer wants to purchase. Mayor Brad Ramsay and the council say they don’t want to go to court over the matter and will work with Boyter’s and the developer to arrive at a fair settlement for all concerned.

Richfield holds hearing on loitering

(RICHFIELD) – Richfield City officials held two public hearings at last night’s council meeting concerning the issuance of $600,000 in a Sales Tax Revenue Bond and the city’s loitering ordinance. The first hearing was held to gain public input on the bond issue for funds to make utility improvements at the new Richfield Business Park southeast of the city. No comments were offered and the city adopted the bond resolution. Finance Director, Mike Langston, also explained the sale of the revenue bonds to Zion’s Public Finance so that the city could relieve itself of the bonds. A second hearing was held concerning amending the city’s loitering ordinance but no comments from the public were submitted and the city adopted the changes in the ordinance. The changes in the ordinance came about due to the concerns of several business owners downtown main street in Richfield, who wanted intruders off their property after business hours. City officials said the businesses would need to post signs on their lots at the owner’s expense with the correct ordinance language in order for violators to be cited.
