Longtime BYU Football Color Analyst To Retire At Season’s End

PROVO, Utah-An announcement over this weekend confirmed longtime BYU Football radio color analyst Marc Lyons will retire at season’s end.

Lyons, a former standout quarterback for the Cougars from 1965-1969, first appeared on Cougars radio broadcasts September 6, 1980 at New Mexico with the-then voice of the Cougars, KSL TV/Radio sportscaster Paul James.

From that time, Lyons has contributed on approximately 470 sportscasts on the Nu Skin BYU Sports Network, of which Mid-Utah Radio has been a longtime affiliate.

This is Lyons’ 38th overall season as a broadcaster on the BYU Sports Network and he has been on the radio every year except 1991. In 1989, he did television work and in 1990, NCAA guidelines conflicted with his high school coaching responsibilities.

Lyons teamed up with James for 19 seasons and, since 2001, has worked with current voice of the Cougars, Greg Wrubell.

This season, former BYU wide receiver Mitchell Juergens has been added to the broadcast team as a sideline reporter.

Juergens played for the Cougars from 2013-2016, amassing 99 receptions for 1,228 yards and eight touchdowns.
