Mother of teen injured in accident on I-70 speaks up about seatbelt use

The mother of a Colorado teen injured in an accident in March on I-70 in Sevier County is now speaking out about seatbelt use.

Teresa Miller says her daughter, Apolonia Gallegos, was severely injured with multiple broken bones and brain injuries after she was ejected from the driver’s seat.

She has been moved to Utah Valley Specialty Hospital and is receiving respiratory therapy and help from a ventilator to breath.

Gallegos’ friend who was with her during the accident, but was wearing a seatbelt, is back home with a broken clavicle.

Miller says for her family it’s been horrible and now she’s hoping to get her girl home and also to help other teens to see the need to wear a seatbelt.

“I want young people to see the go-fund-me and see what happens when you don’t wear it,” Miller says.

Miller says a lot of Gallegos’ friends call her and ask what they can do.

“And I tell them, what I really want is to spare your family from this heartache,” Miller says.

A Go-fund-me account has been sent up to help raise enough money to move Gallegos closer to home in Colorado with her family.

A dog also ejected during the crash is recovering from internal injuries, but received no broken bones.
