UVU Baseball Hosts Sacramento State This Weekend

OREM, Utah-Friday through Sunday, Utah Valley baseball (11-35, 7-14 in WAC play) hosts Sacramento State (30-18, 15-6 in WAC play) at UCCU Ballpark, commemorating the Wolverines’ final homestand of the season.

This three-game series will feature Senior Day for the Wolverines on Saturday.

Those to be honored include center fielder Michael Beltran, right-handed pitcher Jake Carr, designated hitter/left fielder Ryan Eastburn, third baseman Paul Estrada, second baseman Kody Hall, right-handed hurler Kohl Hostert, shortstop Trevor Howell, right-handed pitcher Fabian Palacios and right-handed pitcher Walker Ramsey.

The Wolverines seek to remain in sixth place in the WAC so they can advance to the WAC tournament May 22 at Mesa, Ariz.

Beltran leads the Wolverines in batting average (.328) while junior outfielder Alexander Marco leads the squad in home runs (6) and RBI (35).

Junior right-handed pitcher Jesse Schmit has the Wolverines’ best record at 4-6.

Fellow junior right-hander Paxton Schultz has a team-best 74 strikeouts for Utah Valley.

The Hornets have won 30 games for eight consecutive seasons, giving them the longest streak of consecutive 30-win seasons among California Division I universities.

Junior outfielder Matt Smith leads Sacramento State in batting average (.319).

Sophomore infielder Steven Moretto leads the Hornets with seven home runs and Sacramento State’s RBI leader is sophomore catcher Dawsen Bacho (37).

Sophomore right-hander Scott Randall is Sacramento State’s leading pitcher (6-1) and junior right-handed hurler Parker Brahms has a team-best 74 strikeouts.

The Hornets lead the Wolverines all-time 25-16.
