OGDEN, Utah-Saturday afternoon, 1-1 Weber State, coming off of a 41-24 win over Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo at Stewart Stadium last weekend, plays their second Mountain West Conference foe of the season for a road date at Reno, Nev.
The Wildcats, who fell 6-0 to San Diego State August 31, will face the Nevada Wolf Pack at Mackay Stadium for a 5:05 pm MDT kickoff.
Weber State is currently No. 6 in the STATS FCS poll by virtue of their rout of the Mustangs last weekend.
The Wildcats and Wolf Pack have a long history, dating back to Nevada’s days in the Big Sky Conference when they competed at the I-AA (now NCAA Divsion I FCS) level.
The Wolf Pack leads the Wildcats 9-6 all-time, but this is the former regional rivals’ first match-up on the gridiron since 1993.
Weber State scores 20.5 points per game, ranking them 78th in FCS in scoring offense. The Wildcats’ scoring defense has only given up 30 net points on the season (15 per game) as they are tied for 14th in the FCS with Bethune-Cookman and Georgetown.
Wildcats junior quarterback Jake Constantine has completed 38 of 54 passes (72.7 percent) on the season for 256 yards thus far on the season.
Sophomore tailback Josh Davis, the reigning Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week has run for 136 yards and a pair of scores on the season.
The Wildcats’ current leading receiver is sophomore receiver Devon Cooley who has 7 receptions for 91 yards.
Nevada, also 1-1 on the season, has had an interesting start to their campaign as the Wolfpack downed Big Ten Conference foe Purdue 34-31 August 30 only to be clobbered, 77-6 as they visited Oregon of the Pac-12 September 7.
The Wolf Pack ranks 104th in FBS in scoring offense, averaging 20 points per game. Their scoring defense is 129th in the FBS, giving up 54 points per game thus far.
Redshirt freshman Carson Strong is completing 57 percent of his passes this season for the Wolf Pack for 384 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Sophomore tailback Toa Taua is Nevada’s rushing leader, with 18 carries for 69 yards and a score. The Wolf Pack’s current receiving leader is junior wide-out Elijah Cooks (8 rec, 75 yards, 2 TD’s).
Defensively, sophomore defensive end Dom Peterson (2 sacks) and senior defensive back Daniel Brown (2 interceptions) lead the Wolf Pack.
