Weber State Football Visits Montana Saturday

MISSOULA, Mont.-Saturday, No. 3 Weber State (8-2, 6-0 in Big Sky Conference play) visits No. 4 Montana (8-2, 5-1 in Big Sky play) in a game that will affect the Big Sky Conference championship and FCS playoff seeding picture.

The Wildcats visit Washington-Grizzly Stadium having been ranked in the Top 10 for the 19th consecutive week, a school record.

This also commemorates the first time that Weber State has faced a Top 5 team while also being ranked in the Top 5 in school history.

In his sixth season at the helm of the Wildcats’ program, Jay Hill is 36-26 (.581) and 27-13 (.675) in Big Sky games.

Weber State currently ranks 47th nationally (30.6 points per game) in scoring offense.

Junior signal-caller Jake Constantine completes 64.5 percent of his passes (131-203) for 1,274 yards, 7 TD’s and 6 INT’s on the season for the Wildcats.

Sophomore tailback Josh Davis (134 car, 901 yards, 9 TD’s) ranks 8th nationally in yards per carry (6.7 yards per tote).

Redshirt freshman tailback Kris Jackson (80 car, 364 yards) has a team-best 10 rushing touchdowns for Weber State.

Sophomore receiver Devon Cooley (45 rec, 503 yards, 2 TD’s), junior wide-out David Ames (36 rec, 351 yards, 2 TD’s) and junior receiver Rashid Shaheed (19 rec, 233 yards, 3 TD’s) all lead the Wildcats in the receiving department.

Junior kicker Trey Tuttle has made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts on the season and 32 of his 34 PAT’s.

Weber State’s scoring defense ranks 16th nationally (20.7 points per game).

Senior defensive end Jonah Williams (6.5 sacks, forced fumble) and redshirt sophomore defensive end George Tarlas (6 sacks, 3 forced fumbles) are the Wildcats’ defensive leaders.

Redshirt freshman cornerback Eddie Heckard, sophomore safety Brody Burke and freshman cornerback Ja’Kobe Harris have two interceptions apiece for the Wildcats. Junior safety Preston Smith also has three forced fumbles for the Wildcats, tying Tarlas for the team lead.

Montana comes into Saturday’s showdown having won three straight games. These wins are over Eastern Washington (34-17), Portland State (38-23) and Idaho (42-17).

The Grizzlies rank eighth nationally in scoring offense (38.2 points per game).

Redshirt senior signal-caller Dalton Sneed completes 66.8 percent of his passes (191-286, 9th nationally) for 2,260 yards, 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Sophomore tailback Marcus Knight (171 car, 774 yards) is tied for third nationally with 16 touchdown runs.

The Grizzlies’ leading receivers are redshirt junior wide-out Samuel Akem (59 rec, 848 yards, 5 TD’s) and redshirt junior receiver Samori Toure (55 rec, 859 yards, 7 TD’s).

Redshirt junior kicker Brandon Purdy has made 9 of his 12 field goals and 44 of his 46 PAT’s on the season for the Grizzlies.

Montana ranks 37th in scoring defense (24.2 points per game) nationally.

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Patrick O’Connell leads the Grizzlies with 5 sacks. Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Alex Gubner has a team-best three interceptions and redshirt freshman defensive end Milton Mamula has a pair of forced fumbles to lead Montana.

The Grizzlies have dominated the all-time series against the Wildcats 39-15 and 21-6 all-time in the series at Missoula, Mont.
