OGDEN, Utah-Saturday, Weber State football (9-3, 7-1 in Big Sky Conference play) hosts the Kennesaw State Owls (11-2, 5-1 in Big South Conference play) in the second round of the FCS playoffs for a 1:00 pm kickoff at Stewart Stadium.
The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the FCS playoffs while the unseeded Owls got to this point by downing Wofford 28-14 last Saturday at Spartanburg, S.C.
This is the fourth consecutive season Weber State is playing in the FCS playoffs and the eighth time in school history.
In his sixth season at the helm, Wildcats head coach Jay Hill is 45-29 (.608).
Weber State comes into Saturday’s game averaging 30 points per game, tying them for 42nd nationally in scoring offense with Brown.
Junior signal-caller Jake Constantine completed 63.5 percent of his passes (165-260) for 1,733 yards, 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions during the regular season for Weber State.
Sophomore tailback Josh Davis is the Wildcats’ leading rusher (155 car, 1,015 yards [26th nationally], 10 touchdown runs on 6.5 yards per carry [11th nationally]).
Redshirt freshman tailback Kris Jackson ran for a team-best 10 scores during the regular season for the Wildcats.
Sophomore receiver Devon Cooley (49 rec, 577 yards, 4 TD’s) is the Wildcats’ overall leading receiver with junior wide-out David Ames (43 rec, 515 yards, 3 TD’s) and sophomore receiver Ty MacPherson (26 rec, 404 yards, 3 TD’s; a team-best 15.5 yards per reception) all bolstering the squad’s receiving corps.
Junior kicker Trey Tuttle made 20 of his 24 field goal attempts and 38 of his 41 PAT attempts on the regular season.
The Wildcats rank 21st nationally in scoring defense, surrendering 21 points per game.
Sophomore linebacker Noah Vaea leads the squad in tackles with 71.
Junior defensive lineman Jared Schiess, a Manti High School product, leads the Wildcats in tackles for loss with 10.5, while redshirt sophomore defensive lineman George Tarlas leads the squad in sacks, with 8.
Freshman cornerback Ja’Kobe Harris has a team-best 3 interceptions while redshirt freshman corner-back Eddie Heckard and sophomore corner-back Marque Collins have 5 pass breakups apiece for the Wildcats.
Tarlas and junior safety Preston Smith are tied for the team lead with three forced fumbles apiece.
The Owls are coached by Brian Bohannon who is 47-14 (.770) in his fourth season at the helm of the program.
Kennesaw State ranks fifth nationally in scoring offense, scoring 39.2 points per game.
The Owls primarily run the ball as they have amassed 4,509 rushing yards on the season which ranks first nationally. The Owls also average a national-best 346.8 yards on the ground per game.
Sophomore quarterback Jonathan Murphy is a newcomer to the Owls’ starting lineup, but he ran for 206 yards and 3 scores in the first-round win over the Terriers.
Senior tailback Bronson Rechsteiner (103 car, 870 yards, 7 TD’s) is Kennesaw State’s leading rusher. Sophomore back Isaac Foster (34 car, 506 yards, 4 TD’s) has also been solid for the Owls in the running game.
Junior tailback Shaquil Terry is the Owls’ leading receiver (15 rec, 370 yards, 5 TD’s).
Kennesaw State ranks 9th nationally in scoring defense, surrendering 18.2 points per contest.
Junior linebacker Bryson Armstrong leads the Owls in tackles (85), tackles for a loss (11.5) and is tied for the lead in forced fumbles (2) with junior defensive back Bryson Perry and junior defensive lineman Peyton Moore.
Senior defensive lineman Desmond Johnson Jr. leads Kennesaw State in sacks (7) and tackles for a loss (16).
Freshman defensive back Markeith Montgomery leads the Owls in interceptions (3).
