SOUTH JORDAN, Utah-Last Thursday, Utah Valley University women’s golfer Carly Dehlin became just the third women to ever qualify for the Utah State Amateur after carding a six-over-par 78, finishing 10th at Glenmoor Golf Course.
Dehlin has joined BYU women’s golfer Naomi Soifua and former Oklahoma State golfer, and Highland native, Annie Thurman, as the only women in state history to accomplish this feat.
Dehlin, a senior to be out of Draper, Utah and a former Alta High School competitor, got off to a solid start by sinking a birdie on the first hole of the day.
After bogies on holes two and seven, she made a birdie on eight to pull even. Dehlin was able to successfully combat extremely windy conditions on the back nine to finish six over par and stay above the cut line to earn a spot in the championship.
Dehlin has excelled in the spotlight numerous times. This past season, she finished in the top 25 of all but two of the Wolverines’ competitions and broke numerous records in the process.
At the (Montana State) Bobcat Spring Invitational, she shot the lowest round in program history with a 67 and won the Grand Canyon Invitational last February, which was her first collegiate win.
The amateur championship will run June 11-16 at the Oak Ridge Country Club of Farmington.
