HILLSBORO, Ore.-Thursday-Saturday, Utah Valley baseball (0-4) seeks their first win(s) of the season as they visit the Portland Pilots (3-0) of the West Coast Conference at Ron Tonkin Field of Hillsboro, Ore.
The Wolverines and Pilots will play single games on Thursday and Saturday with a doubleheader slated for Friday.
Thursday, UVU will ride with senior right-hander Jesse Schmitt (3.00 ERA), who netted eight strikeouts in a 3-2 loss to Abilene Christian last Friday.
Friday, the Wolverines will go with junior Bobby Voortmeyer (0-1, 13.50 ERA) and fellow junior Jaxson Otis in the nightcap that evening.
Saturday, sophomore right-hander Mason Gray (4.50 ERA) gets the nod for the Wolverines on the mound.
In his 12th season at the helm of the UVU program, head coach Eric Madsen is 297-322 (.497) all-time.
Presently, both freshman outfielder Connor Hall and redshirt freshman catcher/first baseman Dalton Hill are batting .500 on the season for the Wolverines.
Freshman infielder Garrett Broussard has a team-best 2 RBI for UVU and no one has hit any home runs on the season as of yet for the Wolverines.
Portland is coached by Geoff Loomis who is 78-135-1 (.366) in his fifth season at the helm of the Pilots’ program.
The Pilots are led in batting average (.545) and RBI (7) by sophomore first baseman Tracye Tammaro Tammaro and freshman utility player Sean Muclare lead Portland with two home runs apiece.
The Pilots lead the Wolverines 10-9 all-time although the Wolverines lead the series 5-3 all-time at Portland, Ore.
