UVU Baseball To Host Oregon Wednesday

OREM, Utah-Wednesday, Utah Valley baseball (5-18, 2-1 in WAC play) hosts the Pac-12’s Oregon Ducks (currently 12-9, 2-4 in conference play) in a non-conference game at UCCU Ballpark.

The Ducks visit the Wolverines after facing BYU at Miller Park Tuesday evening.

Utah Valley is led on the season by junior outfielder Alexander Marco (.337 batting average, 4 home runs, 9 doubles, 16 RBI).

Defending WAC pitcher of the week, junior right-hander Paxton Schultz (1-2, 3.51 ERA) is the ace on the Wolverines’ staff.

Meanwhile, the Ducks are receiving votes in the USA Today Top 25 coaches poll although they have dropped five of their last seven games.

However, Oregon is ranked 11th in the latest RPI rankings and has played the toughest schedule in the nation thus far.

Junior first baseman Gabe Matthews (.370 batting average, 27 hits, 13 RBI, 2 home runs) is the Ducks’ offensive statistical leader in every conceivable category.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Keaton Chase leads the Ducks in both ERA (2.57) and record (2-0).

Wednesday evening’s game is the first one in history between the Ducks and the Wolverines.
