Utah Women’s Basketball Extends Roberts Through 2023

SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, in one of his last acts as the athletics director at the University of Utah, Dr. Chris Hill gave Utes’ women’s basketball coach Lynne Roberts a contract extension through the 2022-23 season.

Hill stated he thinks that under Roberts’ guidance, the Utes’ program has “a bright future.”

Roberts is entering her fourth season with the Utes and has an overall record of 52-44 during her time in Salt Lake City.

In her overall head coaching career, Roberts is 273-219, having previously coached at Division II Chico State (2002-2006) and Pacific (2006-2015).

Roberts, who has led the Utes to postseason play for three consecutive seasons, expressed her appreciation for the Utah administration giving her this opportunity, saying “the administration really puts coaches in a position to be successful.”

In Roberts’ tenure, the Utes have had seven All PAC-12 selections, including first team honorees, Megan Huff and Emily Potter.

Also, in the Roberts era, the Utes have received votes in both the AP and WBCA/USA Today coaches poll and have defeated at least one Top 25 foe every year.

Also, in the Roberts era, three Utah student-athletes have joined the 1,000-point club and the Utes have broken three school records.

Roberts’ coaching career began as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Seattle Pacific, in 1997. She stayed with the Falcons until 2002 when Chico State gave her the chance to be a head coach.

She was also a standout forward with the Falcons from 1993-1997, setting the Falcons’ record for 3-pointers made in a season with 82 and also posted the school record for 3-point percentage in a game, making  7 of 8 (.875) behind the arc against the Willamette Bearcats.
