Utah State Football Returns To Action At San Diego State

SAN DIEGO-Saturday, after their bye week, 1-1 Utah State returns to action against 3-0 San Diego State at SDCCU Stadium in the Mountain West Conference opener for both squads.

The Aggies have won six of their last seven conference-season openers and are 5-1 all-time in Mountain West Conference openers.

The Aggies are 33-26-6 (.556) all-time in conference openers and 30-18 (.625) all-time in their Mountain West Conference history.

Utah State has also won seven of their last 11 road games, including a 6-2 mark in conference play.

The high-octane Aggies rank 13th in scoring offense (48.5 points per game), 20th in rushing offense (252.5 yards per game), second in yards amassed per game (656.5 yards per game) and third in passing offense (404.4 yards per game).

Junior signal-caller Jordan Love ranks 4th nationally with 355 passing yards per game, while tossing for 710 yards, 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on the season. Love has completed 58 of 82 passes (70.7 percent) on the season.

Junior tailback Jaylen Warren (28 car, 246 yards, 3 TD’s) ranks 10th nationally in rushing yards per game (123 per contest) and is the Aggies’ leading rusher.

Graduate transfer Siaosi Mariner (13 rec, 191 yards, 2 TD’s) is the Aggies’ leading receiver.

The Aggies’ scoring defense ranks 56th nationally (22.5 points per game) and Utah State’s defensive leader is junior linebacker David Woodward (28 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles).

San Diego State is 3-0 by virtue of wins over Weber State, UCLA and New Mexico State.

The Aztecs’ scoring defense is the fourth-best in the nation as they surrender only eight points per game.

Senior defensive lineman Myles Cheatum leads the Aztecs with 2.5 sacks while sophomore cornerback Darren Hall has forced two fumbles. Meanwhile, senior linebacker Kyahva  Tezino, senior cornerback Luq Barcoo and junior safety Tariq Thompson have an interception apiece for San Diego State.

The Aztecs’ scoring offense ranks 110th in the nation, posting 20 points per game.

Senior quarterback Ryan Agnew completes 64.4 percent of his passes this season (56-87) for 517 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for San Diego State.

Sophomore tailback Jordan Byrd is the Aztecs’ offensive star as he averages 5.1 yards per carry (37 car, 187 yards) for a pair of scores.

Sophomore receiver Kobe Smith has 11 receptions for 165 yards and a score as San Diego State’s leading receiver.

The Aztecs lead the all-time series against the Aggies 12-1.
