SAN FRANCISCO-Monday, University of Utah men’s basketball freshman center Branden Carlson was named the Pac-12 freshman of the week posting 10.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game in wins over Stanford and California.
Carlson, a product of Bingham High School and native of South Jordan, Utah, is the second Ute to win conference freshman of the week honors. Utes star guard Rylan Jones earned the honor January 27.
In posting 8 blocked shots February 6 in a 64-56 win over Stanford in overtime, Carlson became one of four freshmen in Division I to block 8 shots in a game this season.
The others are Long Beach State center Joshua Morgan, USC forward Onyeka Okongwu and Tennessee-Martin center Eric Rustin.
