SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, the University of Utah football program received word from the NCAA that receiver Derrick Vickers has been granted a five-year clock extension.

Vickers, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., will participate as a senior in 2019 for the Utes.

Vickers played five games for the Utes in 2018 and returned four kickoffs for 78 yards with a long return of 22 yards.

He came to the program from Bakersfield College, earning California Community College Football Coaches Association first-team All-American all-purpose honors in 2014 and 2016 for the Renegades. He redshirted in 2015 and did not play in 2017.

The program has also learned that a petition granting immediate eligibility for sophomore transfer quarterback Cameron Rising was not approved.

Rising competed as a freshman at Texas and enrolled at Utah in the spring. The NCAA ruled Rising must compete a year in residence as a member of the Utes’ program. He will be eligible to practice with the team this season, however.
