Utah Baseball Visits #1 UCLA This Weekend

LOS ANGELES-Friday through Sunday, Utah baseball (12-22, 4-14 in Pac-12 play) has a tall order as they visit #1 UCLA (31-7, 11-4 in Pac-12 play) at Jackie Robinson Stadium for a weekend series.

The Bruins come into this series as the top-ranked team in the nation for the sixth consecutive week.

The Utes, who are coming off of a disappointing 6-3 defeat to non-conference foe Utah Valley Tuesday, continue to be led on the season by junior infielder Oliver Dunn (.370 batting average, also 3 home runs/20 RBI).

Additionally, senior outfielder Erick Migueles (6 home runs, 34 RBI) leads the Utes in both of those categories.

Senior left-handed pitcher Joshua Tedeschi is the ace of the Utes’ staff as his 5-3 record is the best on the squad as are his 30 strikeouts.

The Bruins’ pitching staff is among the best in the nation, sporting a collective ERA of 2.71, the fourth-best in the country.

Junior right-handed pitcher Ryan Garcia (a 4-0 record, a 1.35 ERA and 55 strikeouts) is the Bruins’ best overall pitcher. Freshman right-handed hurler Jesse Bergin (a 5-0 record and a team-best 61 strikeouts) has also been spectacular for head coach John Savage’s squad.

Offensively, junior infielder Jack Stronach (a .380 batting average) and freshman catcher Noah Cardenas (a .375 batting average) provide a consistent presence for the Bruins’ offense.

Junior infielder Michael Toglia (a team-best 6 home runs and 37 RBI) bolsters the UCLA offense as well.

The Bruins have traditionally dominated the Utes, leading the all-time series 25-5.
