LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Utah baseball team dropped it’s opening game at No. 1 UCLA 5-0 in Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday, April 26.
Matt Richardson led the Utes going 2-3 at the plate and Utah’s defense held the top ranked Bruins in check most of the night.
UCLA scored three runs in the second inning and that proved to be enough as their starter went 9.0 innings and only allowing two hits with 14 strikeouts.
Richardson had singles in the third and sixth inning.
Riley Pierce pitched 7.0 innings giving up four runs on 10 hits.
The two teams will be back again on the diamond Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m. for the second game.
