Undefeated Squads Meet As Snow Faces Scottsdale

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-Saturday evening, the #8 Scottsdale Artichokes, currently 3-0 on the season, host the #3 Snow Badgers, who also sport a 3-0 record in the Western States Football League opener for both squads.

The Artichokes have played their fellow Maricopa County schools in non-conference games this season, vanquishing Glendale Community College 52-27, Phoenix College 45-18 and Mesa Community College 52-35.

While they are all fellow WSFL foes to the Artichokes, these games were not considered conference games.

Snow’s 3-0 record comes by virtue of a 56-43 win over Trinity Valley (Athens, Texas), a 75-0 rout of the USA Revolution and a 71-27 decimation of ASA Miami last Saturday.

Thus, this is the first stiff challenge either squad has faced in the last two weeks.

The Badgers come in averaging 69.7 points per game and the Artichokes counter by averaging 49.7 points per game.

With star signal-caller Kare Lyles averaging a WSFL-best 381 yards per game in the air, the Artichokes will definitely try to challenge the Badgers vertically. Lyles also has a conference-best 12 passing touchdowns.

Two of Lyles’ favorite targets are receivers Devin Neal ( a conference-best 122.7 receiving yards per game and a conference-best four touchdown grabs) and Amonte Phillips (113 receiving yards per game and four touchdown grabs, tying Neal).

The Badgers counter by averaging a WSFL-best 327.3 yards on the ground (7.2 yards per carry) and 13 touchdowns on the ground

Tailback Jaylen Warren averages 151 yards per game on the ground as well for the Badgers.

Snow also boasts the reigning NJCAA defensive player of the week in defensive lineman Paul Workman who has 4 sacks on the season and 12 tackles.

This game can be heard on KMTI AM-650 and 106.7 FM. Check the midutahradio.com broadcast schedule for more information.
