Two Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network School Alums Receive All Pac-West Honors

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Late Monday, the Pacific West Conference announced its 2017-18 Academic all-conference team and this list included 148 Dixie State Trailblazers, including two athletes from the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area.

One of these athletes, former Richfield High multi-sport star Shandi Bastian, of Sigurd, posted a perfect 4.0 GPA. During her collegiate career, she has competed in track and field for the Trailblazers.

Bastian is a nursing student at Dixie State, which isn’t necessarily the easiest discipline to master.

Additionally, Sterling native and former Manti High track star Rebecca Opoulos made the all-academic squad as well, posting a 3.94 GPA in communication studies.

The Dixie State program boasting the most academic all-Pac West honorees is baseball, as 17 Trailblazers athletes obtained academic honors.

This represents the last athletic season the Trailblazers will spend in the Pac-West conference as they will be moving to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in all sports. Presently, the Dixie State football team already belongs to this conference.
