EPHRAIM, Utah-For the second time this season, Snow College freshman Korrin Thornock has been named the Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Thornock, a Spanish Fork, Utah native, helped lead the Badgers to back-to-back road wins last week, including a 3-1 win over the defending National Champions from Southern Idaho, and a decisive 3-0 win over nationally ranked Salt Lake Community College. With the wins, the Badgers (28-2) own a two-game lead in the Scenic West standings, and must win one of their two remaining games to win their first outright championship since 1986.
Thornock totaled nine kills and 13 digs in the Badgers’ win at CSI, and followed that performance with 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks against SLCC on Saturday. For the week, the 6-0 right-side hitter averaged a team leading 2.86 kills per set. All totaled, she had 20 kills on 69 attempts to hit .217 for the week. As a six-rotation player, Thornock also totaled 20 digs, averaging 2.85 digs per set.
Snow College will play host to Utah State Eastern on Thursday evening, beginning at 7 p.m. With the game falling on Halloween, fans are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. There will be a contest for the best costumes. Following the game, cheerleaders, drill team, and volleyball team members will be handing out candy to kids who attend the game. On Saturday, the Badgers will play host to Colorado Northwestern, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday will be Sophomore Day where the Badgers will honor seven sophomores prior to the game. In addition, Snow College will be recognizing this year’s Hall-of-Fame inductees during the match.
While the Badgers can do no worse than a tie for first place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, Snow College is poised to win its first outright conference title since 1986. The Badgers must win one of their final two matches in order to secure the outright title and earn the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Region XVIII Championship Tournament, which will be held on Nov. 8-9 in Ephraim.
