Salt Lake City To Be NCAA Tournament Host In 2024

SALT LAKE CITY-The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will return to Salt Lake City Wednesday per an official statement.

The most recent NCAA Tournament in Salt Lake City occurred in 2019.

It is presumed that the Vivint Smart Arena in downtown Salt Lake City will be the venue hosting these games.

This will represent the 17th time Salt Lake City has hosted first and second-round NCAA Tournament action.

Salt Lake City has hosted NCAA Tournament regionals in 1971, 1981 and 2010.

In 1979, Salt Lake City hosted the Final Four, including the iconic NCAA Tournament championship game featuring Earvin “Magic” Johnson’s Michigan State Spartans against Larry Bird’s Indiana State Sycamores.

While Johnson’s Spartans prevailed 75-64, Johnson and Bird would go on to have a rivalry in the NBA Finals multiple times throughout the 1980’s as the star players for the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, respectively.
