(Salt Lake City, UT) — The NHL is preparing a plan that may relocate one of the league’s franchises to Salt Lake City. ESPN reports that the league may be moving the Arizona Coyotes to Utah as soon as next season. The NHL remains convinced that a franchise should be in Arizona, but is unsure of the recent plan to build an arena in Phoenix. That plan involves Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo’s bid to win a land auction in June. The NHL’s backup option is to sell the team to Utah Jazz owners Ryan and Ashley Smith. An announcement on relocation could come as soon as this month.
