MONROE, Utah-Tyson Chisholm amassed 198 all-purpose yards on 20 touches and ran for the game-winning touchdown with 66 seconds left from 14 yards out as the South Sevier Rams outgunned Kanab 41-37 Friday in non-region football action to commence the high school football season.
The game was interesting in the regard that three interceptions were returned for scores with South Sevier’s Peydon Wood and Yates Taylor returning Sam Orton interceptions 33 and 58 yards, respectively, for scores. Additionally, Kanab’s Carter Jackman returned a Tracen Winkel interception 26 yards for a score to give the Cowboys a 30-21 lead in the 3rd Quarter.
Nevertheless, South Sevier took complete control from that time on, going on a 20-7 run to close the game, including two scores from Chisholm, a 25-yard touchdown run and a 58-yard scoring run, his longest jaunt of the game.
The Rams controlled the line of scrimmage, running for 305 yards on 46 carries (6.6 yards per tote) on the evening with Branson Palmer (14 car, 74 yards) faring spectaculary in a complementary role for South Sevier.
After a slow start, Kanab’s Sam Orton did well in defeat, completing 10 of 19 passes for 175 yards and two scores.
However, his interception (his third of the game) by Cooper Hessey enabled South Sevier to drive 85 yards in 10 plays for the game-winning score by Chisholm.
The Rams stay at Monroe next Friday for a tilt against bitter rival Richfield, “the County Clash,” in a game that will be on the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network.
FILLMORE, Utah-Austin Burratson ran for a key 45-yard score and Wyatt Alcala’s subsequent PAT won the game as the Millard Eagles outlasted the Enterprise Wolves 14-13 Friday in non-region football action. Brooks Myers added a 1-yard touchdown run for Millard.
MILFORD, Utah-Bryson Barnes tossed five touchdown passes and the Milford Tigers pounded Gunnison 58-28 in non-region football action Friday. Caden Madsen tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another score for the Bulldogs in defeat, with Zach Stewart adding a 55-yard scoring run as well in the loss for Gunnison.
DELTA, Utah-Easton Wright’s 4 touchdown passes were instrumental for the Juab Wasps’ success in their 54-6 rout of Delta Friday in non-region football action. Cade Bowring added two more touchdown runs for the Wasps in the win, with Shan Jackson adding a three-yard scoring run in the victory for Juab. In defeat, Will Finlinson had an 87-yard scoring run for the Rabbits.
PRICE, Utah-Kyle King’s four touchdown passes led Manti to a 40-15 rout of Carbon in non-region football action Friday. Seth Jensen and Austin Cox added scoring runs for the Templars in the victory.
CASTLE DALE, Utah-Emitt Hafen tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Richfield Wildcats hammered Emery 42-9 Friday in non-region football action. Brittyn Riddle, Jordan Anderson and Ian Bate also had touchdown runs in the rout for the Wildcats.
BEAVER, Utah-Hunter Carter hauled in a 77-yard touchdown pass from Ryker Albrecht while adding a 90-yard kickoff return for a score as the Beaver Beavers withstood a weather delay to prevail 21-14 over Class 4-A Canyon View in non-region football action Friday. Albrecht stepped up with a 5-yard touchdown run as well for the Beavers.
GRANTSVILLE, Utah-Jackson Sandberg tossed a 21-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Wood and Parker Thomas added a 45-yard touchdown run as the Grantsville Cowboys blanked North Sanpete 14-0 Friday in non-region football action.
Volleyball
GRANTSVILLE, Utah-Grantsville used a decisive 25-10 win in the third set to rout Manti 3-0 in non-region girls volleyball action Friday.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-The Panguitch Bobcats had dominant wins in the first and third sets and prevailed 18-16 in the third set Friday to outlast the Class 4-A Cedar Lady Reds 3-2 Friday in non-region girls volleyball action.
