1A State Championship
ST. GEORGE, Utah-Gavin Morgan pitched a complete game one-hitter with five strikeouts and the Piute Thunderbirds earned a run-rule 10-0 win over Panguitch to win the 1A Baseball State Championship Saturday at Snow Canyon High School. Jax Coburn drove in three runs to lead the Thunderbirds at the plate and Jonathan Nunez Millan and McKray Gayler each hit doubles in the victory. Piute has now won three straight state championships and four of the last five.
1A 3rd-4th Place Game
ST. GEORGE, Utah-The Wayne Badgers earned a hard fought win over Valley 7-6 Saturday to take 3rd place in the 1A Baseball State Tournament.
Girls Soccer
3-A First Round
KAMAS, Utah-Annie Edmunds amassed a hat trick and the South Summit Wildcats clobbered South Sevier 7-1 Saturday in the first round of the 3-A girls soccer playoffs. Emmaline Peterson scored the sole goal in defeat for the Rams, ending their season. South Summit, the No. 14 seed, next visits No. 3 Judge Wednesday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the postseason.
