LOGAN, Utah-Monday, Utah State head football coach Gary Andersen named Mike Sanford as his new offensive coordinator.
Sanford was most recently the head coach at Western Kentucky in 2017 and 2018. He led the Hilltoppers to a 9-16 overall record, including a 6-10 mark in Conference USA play.
Sanford is a former quarterback at Boise State (2000-2004) and prior to coaching at Western Kentucky, he was Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach.
While serving as an Irish assistant, he is best known for coaching current Green Bay Packers reserve signal-caller DeShone Kizer in 2015. The Irish also averaged 466.4 yards of offense and 34.2 points per game.
He was an assistant at Boise State in 2014 and helped lead Broncos signal-caller Grant Hedrick to the top completion percentage in FCS at 70.8 percent and also mentored current Philadelphia Eagles tailback Jay Ajayi, helping him amass more than 2,300 scrimmage yards that season.
Sanford is a 2005 graduate of Boise State.
