Juab’s Girls, Delta’s Boys, Excel at Delta Qualifier

DELTA, Utah-Wednesday, Delta High School hosted a rare mid-week qualifier track and field meet with numerous Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network schools and athletes participating.

The girls’ title was won by Juab as the Wasps amassed 136 points, as Delta finished second with 113.5 points and Richfield was third with 103.5 points. Panguitch finished fifth with 68 points and Manti checked in at sixth with 43.5 points.

For the boys, Delta won the title with 131 points, with Juab finishing in second with 108.5 points. Panguitch was third with 87 points and Richfield placed fourth with 72.5 points. Manti placed sixth overall with 62.5 points.

In indvidual events, Panguitch’s Taylia Norris won the girl’s 1600-meter run in a time of 5:25.20. (Norris also won the 800-meter run  in a time of 2:24.43).SeOnna Southwick of Richfield placed third, with LorraLyn Bronson and Maura Williams of Juab finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Richfield’s Jamie Holt placed sixth overall in the event.

The boys’ 1600-meter run champion was Richfield’s Chaz Roberts in 4:54.81 with his teammate, Nick Woolsey, finishing second. Porter Schoppe of Panguitch was fourth, while Tyler Dinkel of Juab placed fifth and Manti’s Mark Olsen placed sixth.

The girls’ 100-meter hurdles champion was Kapri Orton of Panguitch in a time of 16.59 seconds while Delta’s Jaymen Brough won the 110-meter hurdles title for the boys in a time of 15.79 seconds. Brough also won the 300-meter hurdles title in a time of 42.22 seconds, as well as the high jump crown with a leap of 6 feet 3 inches.

Juab’s Ronnie Walker won the girls’ 100-meter dash title in 13.03 seconds (Walker also took the 200-meter dash title in  26.30 seconds) and the boys’ champion in the 100-meter dash was Turner Kolye of Millard in 11.38 seconds.

The Delta boys won the 4 x 100 relay in a time of 45.80 seconds with a team consisting of Trey Brough, Jaymen Brough, Oran Finlinson and Derek Smith.

In the girls’ 400-meter dash, Passion Reitz of Richfield won the title in a time of 1:01.85 (Reitz also won the girls’ long jump crown with a leap of 15 feet 9 inches) and Adi Nielson of Delta won the girls’ 300-meter hurdle title in a time of 48.86 seconds.

Richfield’s Hayden Harward won the boys’ 800-meter run title in 1:57.44 with North Sevier’s girls winning the medley relay in a time of 4:26.31. In this event, the Wolves’ team consisted of Madison Bennett, Karlee Bennett, McCadey Goble and Mayci Torgerson.

Torgerson’s excellence continue in the high jump as she took the crown over Kapri Orton of Panguitch, with a leap of 5 feet 4 inches.

Juab’s Dason Day won the boys’ 3200-meter run crown in a time of 11:06.78, outlasting Delta’s Ezra Anderson, who ran it in 11:08.08.

The Juab girls’ 4 x 400 relay team took the title in that event in a time of 4:17.90. The Wasps’ runners in this event included Bayli Heap, Willow Kay, Krista Nielson and Emilia Anderson.

The boys’ javelin title was won by Juab’s Jackson Rowley with a toss of 151-11.50 feet while Chase Fowles of Delta won the discus crown with a toss of 134-02 feet in that event, as well as the shot put title with a toss of 45-07.50 feet.

Delta’s Asha Anderson won the girls’ javelin title with a toss of 115-06 feet to win more crucial points for the Rabbits.
