OGDEN, Utah-Monday, former Gunnison Valley High School track star and current Weber State sophomore Kate Sorensen received first-team academic all-district honors.

Sorensen was named to the Google Cloud Academic District 8 first team.

These academic teams are nominated and voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Sorensen is the only women’s track athlete from the Big Sky Conference to achieve this honor and only one of two representing the Beehive State.

She is a first-team honoree and as such, will advance to the Google Cloud All-America ballot.

Sorensen currently maintains a 3.97 GPA as a microbiology major.

She is the Big Sky’s reigning women’s 400-meter hurdles champion and will compete in this event at this week’s NCAA Division I national track and field championships at Austin, Texas.
