ST. GEORGE, Utah-Jake Engel hit a home run in center field in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Dixie State Trailblazers outlasted Northwest Nazarene 3-2 Thursday in Dixie State’s home opener at Bruce Hurst Field.
Braden Stutzman added another RBI for the Trailblazers and Brody Clifford scored on a passed ball for Dixie State, who improved to 4-1 with the win.
Jesse Hillyard homered in the loss for the Nighthawks, as they fell to 0-1 on the season.
Jayden Murray, the reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pitcher of the week, surrendered only three hits in seven innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the mound.
These two teams are in action again Friday at 11:30 am at Bruce Hurst Field.
