SALT LAKE CITY-Wednesday, the state championship cross country meet occurred at Sugar House Park, with numerous athletes from the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area schools excelling.
At this competition, a standard 3-mile run race was run by all boys and girls competitors.
For the 1-A girls, Panguitch won the team title netting a score of 21. Milford also netted a score of 21 but the Bobcats won the team title by virtue of having seven runners place. The Tigers only had six. Bryce Valley’s girls placed fifth with a score of 85. Wayne’s girls posted a score of 114 and Valley’s girls placed ninth with a score of 149.
Panguitch’s Taylia Norris is the 1-A state champion, posting a time of 19:54.70. Milford’s Kinley Spaulding and Akaydeh Livingston placed second and third respectively while Abigail Holman of Panguitch placed fifth.
Emma Beesley led Bryce Valley by placing 12th with Wayne’s Felicity Williams leading the Badgers by finishing 15th overall. Savannah Wood of Valley led the Buffaloes, finishing 29th overall.
For the 1-A boys, Monticello won the team title with a score of 10 with Panguitch’s boys finishing second, netting a score of 46. The Wayne boys finished third, with a score of 66 while Valley finished fifth, posting a score of 93. Milford’s boys checked in the standings by placing ninth overall with a score of 142.
Monticello’s Adam Bunker won the state title in a time of 16:32.80. Panguitch’s Porter Schoppe and Luke Reeder finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Valley’s Koleman McInnis finished ninth overall and Miles Guerrero of Wayne finished 10th overall, pacing the Badgers.
In 2-A, the girls championship was won by Millard as the Eagles netted a score of 22. Parowan placed third overall with a score of 66.
The 2-A girls’ individual champion is Katy Kelly of Millard in a time of 18:58.40. Her teammate, Audrey Camp, finished third overall.
Wasatch Academy’s Sheilah Cheruiyot and Ashley Lagat placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Rounding out the top 10 were Millard’s Ember Moat, Aimee Thurman, Mary Degraffenreid and Hannah Koyle, respectively.
North Sevier’s Avery Smith paced the Wolves by placing 12th overall and Tavy Gale of Beaver finished 14th overall. Additionally, Kanab was led by Joelle Werlinger who finished 25th overall.
For the 2-A boys, North Summit took the team title with a score of 29 and Millard finished second, scoring a 67. Kanab was fifth with a score of 132 and Beaver was eighth with a score of 181.
Individually, David Fine of North Summit took the 2-A state title in a time of 16:12.90. Millard’s Jaren Camp placed fourth in a time of 17:07.80.
Millard’s Shade Woodard finished eighth overall and Nathan Bowman of Kanab placed 11th.
Kelby Bosh of North Sevier paced the Wolves by finishing 14th and Mason Bartlett of Beaver placed 17th overall.
Gunnison’s Benjamin Hill placed 21st overall, leading the Bulldogs and Diego Ruiz Osorio finished 38th overall to lead Wasatch Academy.
For the 3-A girls, Morgan took the team title with a score of 62 and Richfield finished third, posting a score of 93. Juab was seventh with a score of 177.
Kylah Ricks of Grand took the individual state title for the 3-A girls in a time of 19:09.80.
Juab’s Maura Williams placed sixth overall and SeOnna Southwick of Richfield led the Wildcats by placing 11th.
Manti’s Fiel Woods led the Templars by placing 21st overall and Linzy Flinders of North Sanpete paced the Hawks by placing 37th overall.
For the 3-A boys, Morgan’s boys also took the team title, posting a score of 61. North Sanpete’s boys finished sixth with a score of 149. Richfield’s boys placed eighth with a score of 182 and Juab’s boys placed ninth with a score of 203.
Grantsville’s Porter Whitworth won the individual state title in a time of 15:43.60. Richfield’s Hayden Harward finished third overall in a time of 16:16.80.
North Sanpete’s Orange Peel finished 12th overall and Tyler Dinkel of Juab led the Wasps by posting an 18th place finish.
Sam Cox of Manti finished 40th overall and John McLaws of Delta checked in by placing 54th overall.
