ST. GEORGE, Utah-D.J. Penick ran for 105 yards on 13 carries and a score as the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves pounded Dixie State 36-7 Saturday at Trailblazer Stadium in the season opener for both squads in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Penick spearheaded a Colorado State-Pueblo attack that ran for 244 yards, while Dixie State was limited to only 59 yards on the ground.
Dionte Sykes also had a big game for the Thunderwolves, as he hauled in four passes for 172 yards, good for a 43-yard average.
Marcus Lindsay, the younger brother of Denver Broncos tailback Phillip Lindsay, also ran for a score for the Thunderwolves. Defensively, Colorado-State Pueblo was led by cornerback Emery Taylor who had an interception, and linebacker Kyle Rosenbrock posted a sack.
Receiver Jalen Powell hauled in 8 receptions for 65 yards and the Trailblazers’ only score of the game in the loss for Dixie State.
The Trailblazers are in action next Saturday at noon at Durango, Colo. against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks as they seek their first win of the season.
