Chadron State Spoils Dixie State’s Homecoming; Snaps Trailblazers’ 6-Game Winning Streak

ST. GEORGE, Utah-Tevon Wright hauled in 9 receptions for 175 yards and two scores as the Dixie State Trailblazers had their six-game winning streak snapped by Wright’s Chadron State Eagles with Chadron State prevailing 40-27 Saturday at Trailblazers Stadium.

This loss snapped Dixie State’s 6-game winning streak (6-2, 5-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play) and got the Eagles (4-4, 3-4 in RMAC play) back in the RMAC race while also spoiling the Trailblazers’ Homecoming game.

Chadron State star signal-caller Dalton Holst (19-34, 249 yards, 4 TD’s) and tailback Elijah Myles (39 car, 183 yards, TD) were also solid for the Eagles as they netted their third straight victory on the season.

After Colton Dodler nailed a 23-yard field goal early in the 3rd Quarter, the Eagles led 31-7 and were never seriously threatened by the streaking Trailblazers for the rest of the game.

Linebacker Tyler Lewis posted two sacks and a pair of forced fumbles and safety Tyree Fryar had an interception to pace the Eagles defensively.

In defeat, Tanner Hammond (17-32, 240 yards, TD/INT) came on in relief of Kody Wilstead who had completed only 2 of 10 passes for nine yards and was sacked twice for Dixie State.

Sei-J Lauago had a 69-yard touchdown run for Dixie State and Dejuan Dantzler hauled in 7 receptions for 119 yards and a score for the Trailblazers in the loss.

Dixie State is next in action November 2 as they host the Colorado Mesa Mavericks for a 1:00 pm kickoff at Trailblazers Stadium.
