SALT LAKE CITY-Friday evening, the Pac-12 confirmed they will only be playing a conference football schedule this season.
This results in the BYU-Utah football game, slated for September 3 at Rice-Eccles Stadium, being canceled.
The Utes have won the last nine games in the series.
The last time the bitter rivals missed a game was in 2014 when then-Utah athletic director, Dr. Chris Hill, opted out of a game against the Cougars to play at Michigan.
Before 2014, the only interruption in this rivalry occurred during World War II (1943-1945).
Pauses in the rivalry were slated for 2022 and 2023 as the Utes will be playing Florida in a home-and-home agreement.
The series is expected to resume in 2024.
The Cougars are expected to have only seven games for the 2020 college football season.
The Utes lead this series 59-31-4 (.649) all-time.
