NORMAL, Ill.-Wednesday, BYU men’s basketball returns to the road after a six-game home-stand by facing the Illinois State Redbirds of the Missouri Valley Conference on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
In the Cougars’ 5-2 start to the season, they have limited opponents to 40 percent shooting or lower five times.
Thus far on the season, BYU opponents are only shooting 38.8 percent from the field, placing the Cougars in the Top 50 in the NCAA in that regard.
The Cougars are also 7th nationally in turnovers as they only commit 8.9 turnovers per game. They also rank third in the country in assist to turnover ratio at 1.98:1.
BYU is 1-0 all-time against Illinois State, having won 80-68 last December 6.
BYU is led by Yoeli Childs, who averages 20 points and 12 rebounds per game, while shooting 52.3 percent from the field.
The Cougars are also out-scoring opponents on average, 81.4-69.6 to start the season.
The Redbirds are coached by Dan Muller, who is 127-82 (.602) in his seventh year at the helm in Normal, Ill.
Senior guard Milik Yarbrough is the Redbirds’ star as he posts 16.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 51.7 percent from the field for the season early on.
