BYU Football Names 2018 Team Captains

PROVO, Utah-Monday, BYU football announced its team captains for the 2018 season. Cougars head coach Kalani Sitake confirmed the offensive captains will be senior quarterback Tanner Mangum, senior fullback Brayden El-Bakri, senior offensive lineman Austin Hoyt and junior receiver Micah Simon.

Furthermore, Sitake declared the defensive captains for the Cougars include senior linebackers Butch Pau’u, Zayne Anderson and Sione Takitaki as well as senior defensive lineman Corbin Kaufusi.

Throughout his career, Mangum has completed 59 percent of his passes for 5,158 yards, 34 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

El-Bakri is primarily known for his contributions on special teams as well as a lead blocker from his primary fullback position. His BYU career has seen him score three touchdowns and amass 237 all-purpose rushing and receiving yards.

Hoyt, a 6-8 315-pounder, has started 17 games on the offensive line in his career for the Cougars and is slated to start as the right tackle in 2018.

Simon has shown production at receiver as in 2017, he hauled in 27 passes for 386 yards and three scores, averaging 14.3 yards per catch.

In Pau’u’s career, he has amassed 165 tackles (87 solo tackles), and one interception.

Anderson, primarily known for his speed and athleticism, has netted 75 tackles, three forced fumbles and two interceptions in his 33 career games as a collegian.

Takitaki, has 14 career starts in his 30 games with the Cougars. He has netted 119 career tackles, 23.5 for a loss, and 11.5 sacks.

Kaufusi, who is 6-9 and 275 pounds, has amassed 98 career tackles (10 for a loss), 8.5 sacks, two pass breakups and three blocked kicks.
