SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday, BYU baseball (21-5, 7-2 in West Coast Conference play) visits the University of Utah (7-15, 1-8 in Pac-12 play) in the first playing of this rivalry for the 2019 baseball season.
The Cougars have won their last eight games, the fifth-longest streak in the nation but are looking to snap a 3-game losing streak in this series.
The Utes meanwhile seek to end a 9-game losing streak this evening.
The Cougars are the only team in the nation to be ranked both in the Top 15 in in team ERA (14th at 2.99) and the Top 40 in batting average (38th at .292).
BYU’s pitching staff ranks 16th nationally with a WHIP of 1.17 and they allow just 7.37 hits per 9 innings. This ranks them 25th nationally.
The Cougars’ team leader in batting average is senior infielder Brian Hsu (.381).
Both sophomore infielder Jackson Cluff (2 home runs, 27 RBI) and senior outfielder Brock Hale (7 home runs, 25 RBI) lead the Cougars offensively.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Reid McLaughlin and senior right-handed pitcher Jordan Wood are 4-0 apiece to lead BYU’s staff.
The Utes are led by junior infielder Oliver Dunn (a team-best .367 batting average, 2 home runs, 13 RBI), redshirt junior catcher Zack Moeller (3 home runs, 22 RBI) and senior outfielder Erick Migueles (3 home runs, 20 RBI).
Senior left-handed pitcher Joshua Tedeschi (3-2) is the only Utes’ hurler with a winning record thus far on the season.
The Cougars lead the all-time series 246-119-1 and are 112-64-1 all-time at Salt Lake City in the series.
