ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-Thursday-Saturday, BYU baseball (5-3) visits New Mexico (5-2) for single games Thursday and Saturday and a Friday doubleheader at Santa Ana Star Field.
The Cougars are coming off a series which saw them take three of four from Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, Calif. this past week.
Against the Lobos, the Cougars will ride with junior Justin Sterner (0-0) Thursday. Friday, BYU will use Cy Nielson (0-1, 4.15 ERA) and Jarod Lessar (0-0, 1.93 ERA) on the mound. Saturday, BYU gives junior Justin Walker (0-1, 5.40 ERA) the nod.
Freshman infielder/right-handed pitcher Andrew Pintar and sophomore infielder Bryan Call each lead the squad with a .286 batting average.
Junior outfielder Hayden Leatham leads the Cougars with two home runs. Sophomore right-handed pitcher/infielder Austin Deming has a team-best 6 RBI for BYU.
Entering his eighth season at the helm of the BYU program, Mike Littlewood is 220-163 (.574) at the helm.
New Mexico is led in batting average by junior catcher Jarrett Gonzales (.500). The Lobos’ leader in home runs is junior infielder/outfielder Harry Fullerton (2). Fullerton is tied for the team’s RBI lead (6) with senior infielder Justin Watari.
The Lobos are coached by Ray Birmingham, who is 389-314-4 (.551) in his 13th season at the helm of the program.
