Beaver’s Boys Leading After Day 1 At BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah-After the first day of competition at the BYU Invitational, the last tuneup before region and state championship meets, Beaver’s boys are shining brightly on the blue surface at Robison Track.

Despite this being a meet consisting of various 4-A, 5-A and 6-A schools in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming, Beaver’s boys have the lead with 26 points. For the girls, North Summit’s 19 points are currently leading the way, with Panguitch in second at 13 points.

Now, it does bear mentioning that at the BYU Invitational annually, the smaller schools (1-A through 3-A) compete against each other in their own subdivision as do the larger schools (4-A through 6-A).

Nevertheless, the point totals are reflective of all teams participating so Beaver’s Day 1 success is still commendable.

In the girls’ 3200-meter run Panguitch’s Taylia Norris placed third, with Samantha Williams of Beaver finishing fifth and Millard’s Audrey Camp placing sixth.

The boys’ 3200-meter run saw Manti’s Jordan Cheney place a respectable ninth overall, but he ran a swift 9:54.61.

This concluded all of the events on the track to be completed on Friday.

In field event finals, Wayne’s Hannah Williams placed sixth overall in the girls’ high jump and Juab’s Emilia Andeson finished eighth overall in the event.

The boys’ long jump saw Beaver’s Cole Marshall place second overall with a leap of 21-06.25 feet, as Wyatt Van Orden of Wayne finished third and Delta’s Trey Brough finished seventh overall in the event.

Austin Carter of Beaver won the shot put title with a toss of 65-05 feet as Trae Williamson of Milford placed sixth overall and Chase Fowles of Delta finished seventh in the standings.

In the boys’ discus, Carter place second with a toss of 142-11.75 feet while Panguitch’s Bryson Marshall finished fourth. Once again, Trae Williamson of Milford finished sixth and Delta’s Chase Fowles placed seventh.

Finally, to conclude Day 1 of competition, Wayne’s Brynnli Nelson won the girls’ javelin title with a toss of 117-03.75 feet.

The meet resumes Saturday with championship competitions in all other events.
