PROVO, Utah-Friday, as the 1-A through 4-A competition commenced for the Utah state track and field championships at Robison Track in Provo, rainy conditions welcomed the athletes who were competing for state championships in numerous events.
In the 1-A girls 3200-meter run, Panguitch’s Taylia Norris took the state title (11:45.59). Milford’s Kinley Spaulding (11:59.02) finished second and Akaydeh Livingston of Milford placed fourth (12:56.85). Panguitch’s Abigail Holman (13:11.89), Camri Fischer (13:44.07) and Lacey Marshall (13:57.40) finished fifth through seventh and Wayne’s Felicity Williams (14:02.63) also medaled, placing eighth.
In the 2-A girls 3200-meter run, Millard’s Katy Kelly (11:49.37) took the state title. Audrey Camp of Millard placed third (12:03.36). Wasatch Academy’s Sheilah Cheruiyot placed fourth (12:06.20) and her teammate, Ashley Lagat (12:08.46) finished sixth. Ember Moat of Millard placed seventh (12:15.83).
In the girls’ 3200-meter run for 3-A, North Sanpete’s Aubry Cook (12:11.11) placed sixth and Maura Williams of Juab finished eighth (12:26.05).
In the 1-A boys’ 3200-meter run, Porter Schoppe of Panguitch placed third (10:21.61), Kydon Davis of Milford finished sixth (10:52.37) and Wayne’s West Saunders placed seventh (11:00.34).
In the 2-A boys 3200-meter run, Shade Woodard of Millard placed third (10:25.51) and his teammate, Jaren Camp (10:26.76) placed fourth. Nathan Bowman of Kanab placed eighth (10:45.63).
The boys’ 3-A 3200-meter run state champion is Hayden Harward of Richfield (9:39.15).
In the 2-A boys high jump, Kanab’s Sam Orton (6-feet 2 inches) is the state champion. Cade Szymanski of Kanab placed second (6 feet). Garrett Francis of Gunnison Valley placed fourth (5-feet 10 inches) as did fifth-place finisher, Sean Gray of Kanab. Duncan Herbst of Millard placed sixth (5 feet-8 inches).
The 1-A boys shot put champion is Piute’s Riley Pearson (42-05.75) as Orrin Wood of Valley (39-08.75) finished fifth. Jaxon Brienholt (38-07.75) and Easton Torgerson (38-00.25) of Panguitch placed sixth and seventh, respectively and Braden Heaton of Valley finished eighth (37-08.75).
In the 2-A girls’ discus, Millard’s Heidi Thurman placed third (93-07.50) and Kanab’s Annie Bateman placed eighth (80-04.50).
In the 3-A boys’ javelin, Zac Cowan of Juab (165-06.50) took the state title. His teammate, Clarence Kool (147-03.75) placed sixth overall.
In the 2-A boys’ shot put, Beaver’s Treyson Harris (49-01.75) is the state champion. Braeden Stein of Kanab placed second (43-06.75).
The 3-A boys’ high jump state champion is Delta’s Jaymen Brough (6 feet). Scott Hatch also jumped 6 feet, but placed second for North Sanpete. Brad Taylor of South Sevier and Trey Brough and Britton Smith of Delta each tied for third with a leap of 5 feet-8 inches.
In the 3-A girls’ discus, Haylee Christenson of Delta placed fourth (99-11.25). Breana Barson of Manti finished fifth (97-08.50) and Paityn Callister of Delta finished sixth (91-11.25). Morgan Blackburn of South Sevier placed seventh (89-08.50) and Shaylen Allred placed eighth (89-00.75).
In the 1-A girls’ long jump, Bryce Valley’s Brooklyn Syrett took the state title (15-09.25). Morgan Platt of Bryce Valey placed third (15-05) with Wayne’s Hali Peterson finishing fourth (15 feet). Kristen Stewart of Bryce Valley finished seventh (14 -6 inches) and Wayne’s Brynnli Nelson placed eighth (13-11-25).
In the 3-A boys shot put, Clarence Kool of Juab placed third (43-08). Laramie Roberts (42-03) and Mcade Poulson (41-11.50) of North Sanpete placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Romeo Hernandez of Delta finished eighth overall (40-10.25), therefore earning himself the last available medal in the event.
Representing the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network in the 2-A girls’ long jump was Mikelle Church of Kanab who placed sixth (14-11.25).
In the 1-A girls’ 800-meter run, Taylia Norris of Panguitch (2:20.82) is the state champion. Kinley Spaulding of Milford placed second (2:34.07), Tana Frandsen of Panguitch placed third (2:37.54), Aliza Woolsey of Milford finished fifth (2:40.43), Panguitch’s Lacey Marshall finished sixth (2:41.39) and Akaydeh Livingston of Milford placed eighth (2:42.45).
In 2-A, the girls’ 800-meter run champion is Millard’s Katy Kelly (2:23.47). Audrey Camp of Millard placed third (2:30.55), Jade Wimmer of Gunnison Valley finished fourth (2:31.40). Sheilah Cheruiyot (2:32.67) and Ashley Lagat (2:32.73) of Wasatch Academy finished 7th and 8th respectively.
In the 3-A girls’ 800-meter run, Marissa Hall of Juab placed third (2:25.20). Richfield’s Nora Foster (2:30.39) and Kate Robinson (2:33.33) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the event.
In the 1-A boys’ javelin, Panguitch’s Kyle Heaton placed second (155-05.25). Paxton Henrie of Milford placed third (154-04.75). Jaxon Brienholt placed fourth (151-09.25), Orrin Wood of Valley finished fifth (142-02.25). Dallen Torgerson and Kyler Bennett of Panguitch placed seventh (138-03.75) and eighth (138-01.50) respectively.
In the boys’ 1-A high jump, Valley’s Braden Heaton (6 feet-3 inches) is the state champion. Paxton Henrie of Milford placed third (5 feet-8 inches). Kristopher Nez of Bryce Valley finished fourth (5 feet-8 inches). Miles Guerrero of Wayne tied for seventh with Tabiona’s Dakota Young (5 feet-4 inches).
In the 1-A boys’ 800-meter run, Milford’s Bryson Barnes placed second (2:01.77), Kristopher Nez of Bryce Valley finished third (2:03.65). West Saunders and Miles Guerrero of Wayne finished seventh (2:07.34) and eighth (2:07.59) respectively.
In the 2-A boys’ 800-meter run, Shade Woodard of Millard placed second (2:00.39) with Spencer Williams of Beaver placing third (2:01.86). Clay Shakespear of Valley finished fourth (2:05.20) and Jaren Camp of Millard placed fifth (2:07.47) while Kael Myers of Millard placed eighth (2:10.22).
In the 3-A boys’ 800-meter run, Richfield’s Hayden Harward (1:56.65) won his second individual state title of the day. His teammate, Nick Woolsey (2:03.45) placed sixth.
In the 1-A girls’ discus, Kiesa Miller of Panguitch (103-01.75) won the state title. Her teammate, Karlee Eyre (102-09) placed second. Anna Wilde of Piute placed fourth (96-04). Kambree Fuller of Panguitch placed sixth (93-11.50) and Valley’s Amy Cox finished seventh (90-10.50).
Melissa Crane of Richfield won the 3-A girls’ long jump title (17-04.75) with Ronnie Walker of Juab (17-02.75) placing second. Passion Reitz of Richfield placed third (16-09.25). Emilia Anderson of Juab finished fourth (16-05.75).
In the 2-A boys’ javelin, Kanab’s Justus Waters-Tait (169-08.25) won the 2-A boys state championship. Braxton Bond of Millard (143-06.75) placed second with Brooks Myers of Millard (138-03) finishing fifth.
In the final 1-A girls’ event of the day Friday, Panguitch’s girls won the medley state title (4:37.85). This team consists of Lexi Griffin, Brianna Stowe, Hallie Palmer and Taylia Norris.
After the first day of competition in 1-A, Panguitch’s girls lead the way with 69 points. Milford is second with 31 points. Bryce Valley and Monticello are tied for third with 19 points. Wayne is eighth with 7 points. Piute is ninth with 6 points. Escalante is 10th with 5 points. Valley and Tintic are tied for 11th with 4 points.
In the 2-A girls’ medley, Kanab placed second (4:33.11). This team consists of Brinley Unsworth, Caroline Giddings, Bethany Nording and Macie Stewart.
North Summit’s girls currently have the 2-A lead with 48 points. Millard is second with 39 points. Therefore, the Eagles have a solid chance to best the Braves if they excel Saturday. Kanab is fourth with 16 points. Wasatch Academy is fifth with 15 points. Beaver and Saint Joseph are tied for seventh with 11 points. Gunnison Valley is 10th with 5 points and North Sevier and Rowland Hall are tied for 11th with 3 points.
None of the 3-A girls Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network teams medaled in the medley relay Friday. However, Juab is in third place with 21 points in the team standings. Grand is in first place with 32 points. Morgan and Richfield are tied for fourth place with 20 points. Delta is ninth with 9 points. South Sevier and Manti are tied for 11th with 6 points. North Sanpete and Maeser are tied for 13th with 3 points.
In the 1-A boys medley, Wayne placed second (3:53.52). This team consists of Logan Chappell, Bryant Pace, Wyatt VanOrden and Miles Guerrero. Bryce Valley’s boys placed third (3:55.67). The Mustangs were represented by Ethan Platt, Westyn Clark, Treyson Roberts and Brock Syrett.
The 1-A boys standings have Monticello in first place with 61.5 points. Panguitch is a distant second with 33 points. Milford is third with 23 points. Valley and Bryce Valley are tied for fourth with 17 points. Wayne is sixth with 14.5 points. Piute is seventh with 14 points.
In the 2-A boys medley, Beaver placed second (3:47.94) and the Beavers were represented by Porter Albrecht, Kaleb Barney, Turner Williams and Spencer Williams. Millard placed third (3:50.90). Representing the Eagles in this event were Graydee Warren, Sam Marshal, Alex Wall and Morris Maxfield.
Kanab leads the 2-A standings after day 1 with 51 points. Millard is second with 45 points, so this bears watching Saturday. Beaver is fifth with 24 points. Gunnison Valley is ninth with 5 points and North Sevier is 10th with 4 points.
No one placed in the 3-A boys medley from the Mid-Utah Radio Sports Network coverage area. In the current 3-A boys standings, Morgan is first with 38.5 points. Richfield is fourth with 23 points. Delta is sixth with 20 points. Juab is seventh with 19 points. North Sanpete is eighth with 14 points. South Sevier is 12th with 4.5 points and Manti is in 13th with 2 points.
