(Milford, UT) — Smithfield Foods is ending its contracts with more than two-dozen Utah hog farms and laying off dozens of workers in the state. The national food company announced on Tuesday it’s ending contracts with 26 hog farms in Utah. That will mean the end of as many as 70 jobs that support contract relationships with those farms. Smithfield Foods announced last year it would close a majority of its operations in Beaver County, where it’s been the largest employer.
