Women and children are now allowed to act as witnesses to LDS baptisms

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announces that women and children are now allowed to act as witnesses to baptisms ahead of October General Conference.

General Authorities and General Officers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints came together October 2, 2019, to hear from the First Presidency of the Church.

During this time, President Russell M. Nelson discussed a new Church policy related to the witnessing of ordinances such as baptisms for the living and the dead.

First, any baptized member of the Church, including women and children, may serve as a witness of the baptism of a living person.

Second, anyone holding a current temple recommend, including limited-use temple recommends, may be a witness for a proxy baptism.

Third, any member of the Church that is endowed and holds a current temple recommend can serve as witness to living and proxy sealing ordinances.

You can listen to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ General Conference this Saturday and Sunday on KSVC, KMGR and the Eagle. The Eagle will be Sunday only.
