Watered-Down Social Media Bill Passes Utah House

(Salt Lake City, UT) — The Utah House is moving a substantially altered bill on social media use by children to the Senate for consideration. House Bill 311 originally would have banned social media use by kids in Utah, but was then altered to allow social media accounts with parental consent. That requirement has also been eliminated from the bill, which now would work to create an easier path to sue social media companies for knowingly causing harm to children. The bill passed 68-to-six, with five Republicans and one Democrat voting against it.
