(Uintah Basin, UT) — The Ute Indian Tribe is calling on the state legislature to improve its public school system. This comes after data from the 2022 — 2023 school year shows that Ute students are falling further behind and dropping out more than nearly every demographic statewide. Lawmakers currently do not have any plans to introduce any legislation that would help Ute students stay in school. Leitenetant Governor Deidre Henderson did initially say last year that she would be taking action but did not comment to the Salt Lake Tribune when recently asked about those plans headed into the legislative session.
