(Washington, DC) — Utah’s congressional delegation introduced legislation that could pipe more water into the Great Salt Lake. Republican Senator Mitt Romney and Congressmen Chris Stewart and Burgess Owens are pushing the Great Salt Lake Recovery Act. The bill would direct the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to monitor and assess water availability and the condition of the Great Basin region. Engineers would also study possible solutions to raise water levels, including the use of a pipeline from the Pacific Ocean. This comes as the Great Salt Lake reaches its lowest levels ever recorded.
