(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utahns say the challenges of treating mental health are the biggest reason for recent mass shootings in the United States. A new Deseret News-Hinckley Institute of Politics poll shows 43-percent of Utahns say a lack of mental health treatment is responsible for recent tragedies like the shooting at a Texas elementary school that killed 19 children and two adults. Poor gun control laws were cited by 27-percent of those asked. Eleven-percent said inadequate security at schools and public spaces is to blame.
