Utah twins graduate, reflect on refugee parents’ sacrifices

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The college graduation of twin sisters from a refugee family in Salt Lake City marked a key milestone in a journey that is a testament to their hard work, their parents’ insistence that they place a high value on educational opportunities, and the collective efforts of those who helped two little girls who spoke only Somali when they started kindergarten. The Deseret News reports Asma Dahir says her commencement with sister Anisa was a testimony to her parents’ sacrifice in surviving through civil war, coming to America from East Africa and raising them in a foreign land.
