Utah Senate President Travels to World Cup Soccer in Qatar in Trip Partly Paid for by Qatar

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Senate President Stuart Adams has been taking in World Cup soccer action in person, thanks in part to the Qatar government, which partially paid for his trip. An Adams spokesperson says the World Cup trip was a follow-up to the senator’s visit to Qatar in September as part of Governor Spencer Cox’s trade mission to the Middle East. KSL reports Adams is the second high-ranking state Republican official to visit Qatar this year. Attorney General Sean Reyes visited Qatar to watch the U-S play England last month. Qatar paid for Reyes’ trip. It is not a violation of Utah law for politicians to accept gifts.
