Utah Senate Passes Income Tax Reduction

(Salt Lake City, UT) – Legislation to reduce the state income tax is heading to the Utah House after it cleared the Senate Friday. SB 59 reduces the income tax to four-point-eight-five-percent, which is a tenth-of-percentage point less. Republican State Senator Dan McCay argues the cut will give Utah families an average of one-hundred dollars extra annually. Democrats have argued that the Legislature should keep the income tax, and instead repeal the sales tax on food to help people save money.
