SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has seen a surge in coronavirus cases _ but not in densely populated Salt Lake City, where cases are dropping a month after the county instituted a mask mandate. In a rare scenario, case counts in Salt Lake County have started returning to late-June levels while the number of cases in the state as a whole have nearly doubled in the same time frame. Mandating face coverings has been hotly debated in recent weeks as more than half of U.S. states have implemented some kind of requirement. Utah’s GOP governor says it’s too soon to say if the masks are behind the drop in cases there.
