SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Four of the nine protesters charged after police accused them of painting a street red and smashing windows at a district attorney’s office last year in Salt Lake City have taken a plea deal and must pay restitution. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that eight protesters have taken deals that lower their original offenses to misdemeanors. The case for the ninth protester is still ongoing. Under the deal, prosecutors said the protesters’ charges will be dismissed in a year if they are not accused of additional crimes. Court documents said protesters caused about $200,000 in paint and window damage and must now pay back $100,000 after an insurance deductible.
