SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors have identified a pair of suspects from a nearly 40-year-old killing but don’t know where they are now.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sam Gill on Friday announced plans to file murder charges against 60-year-olds Hector Brito and Pascual Alfonseca in the 1979 killing of Jack Richardson.

Police say a witness accused the men of accidentally fatally shooting Richardson in the doorway of his Holladay home during an attempted robbery. Then-54-year-old Richardson used a wheelchair.

After the shooting, authorities say Brito and Alfonseca fled the state by disguising themselves as women and getting on a bus.

Both men immigrated from the Dominican Republican. Police said they may currently be in the U.S., in their home country or in another place entirely.

Authorities say the break in the case came from using new technology to examine old evidence.
